Two clocks start on the day you date it.

FEMA’s, run by the RBI through your bank, and GST’s, under rule 96A. They run for different lengths, and missing either costs money.

Invoiced in

For the invoice above, dated 15 October 2026. Change its date and every mark moves.

See the dates on a time line

For an invoice dated 15 October 2026: the EDF, if your bank says you file, by 30 November 2026; the money realised by 15 July 2027; and under GST rule 96A, about 30 October 2027.

The three facts behind these dates
  • Nine months From the invoice date; twelve for an invoice in rupees. Your bank can extend it.
  • The EDF An Export Declaration Form for each invoice month, filed with your bank within 30 days of the month’s end. On 7 October 2026 the RBI said individuals with contracts of a personal nature are not included, and that FAQs will follow; ask your bank in writing whether you file.
  • Rule 96A If the money hasn’t arrived, IGST falls due about one year and 15 days after the invoice date; ask your CA.

Dates from FEMA 23(R)/2026-RB and CGST rule 96A. Check with your bank and CA.

For you

  • You invoice clients outside India in USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, SGD or AED.
  • You’re GST-registered, or not yet, and want each path right.
  • Or you’re a contractor paid monthly by one company abroad (the guide’s contractor path, chapter 11).

Not for you

  • Your salary as an employee, including pay through an employer-of-record service: a salary isn’t an export of services. Salaried and also billing clients abroad on the side? It is for that work.
  • People who want their returns filed for them.
  • Anyone who needs legal advice on a dispute.

Questions

Who is it for?

Freelancers, consultants and small studios resident in India who bill clients abroad: developers, designers, writers, marketers and consultants, and contractors paid monthly by one company abroad.

I’m not registered for GST. Is it for me?

Yes. Below ₹20 lakh of turnover you may export services without registering, and the kit has a path for that: the plain invoice, the turnover watch, and what to do the month you cross the line. FEMA’s nine months apply to you too.

Do I have to file an EDF?

The regulation says an exporter of services files one with its bank within 30 days of the end of the invoice month. On 7 October 2026 the RBI said individuals with contracts of a personal nature are not included, and that FAQs will follow; none were published as at 12 October 2026. Ask your bank in writing whether you file: the kit has the letter, and the workbook keeps the monthly list ready if your bank says you do.

Which payment route does it recommend?

None. It sets out what each route publishes, dated, worked through at three invoice sizes, with the proof of payment each gives. It is neutral about payment providers: no affiliate links.

Is this tax or legal advice?

No. It is general information and templates, dated and sourced. Where your own facts decide the answer, it says so and gives you the question to take to your CA or advocate.

Will I get a GST invoice?

Yes, a GST tax invoice with every order. You can claim input credit on it if you add your GSTIN at checkout.

What happens when the rules change?

Free updates for 12 months from your purchase date, including any new edition released in that time. When an update ships, its files appear in Your orders, and what changed says what and when.

Which apps open the files?

The PDFs open anywhere. The workbook opens in Microsoft Excel and in Google Sheets; Apple Numbers is not supported. The agreement set and the letters are Word files, which also open in Google Docs.

Can my studio use it?

Yes: the licence covers one business, a sole proprietor or a studio of up to five people. A larger studio writes to hello@quietlybuild.in.

What if something is wrong with a file?

If a file is faulty, doesn’t arrive, or isn’t what its page describes, write within 14 days and I’ll fix it, replace it or refund you in full. A change of mind isn’t refundable once you’ve downloaded the files.

₹1,499, once, with the GST shown.

The Export Desk: you pay ₹1,499 in all; ₹1,270.34 is the taxable value and ₹228.66 is GST at 18%: CGST ₹114.33 and SGST ₹114.33 in Punjab, or IGST ₹228.66 anywhere else in India.
Where are you buying from?
